Assymetric Rating Adjustment
Symmetrical Spinnaker Only
If the rated yacht intends to race with symmetrical spinnaker only, the following correction
credits/penalties apply:
SPL (spinnaker pole length):
<=1.02 x J +0 sec/mi
<=1.10 x J -3 sec/mi
>1.10 x J -6 sec/mi
SL (spinnaker luff length):
<=1.02 x I +0 sec/mi
<=1.05 x I -3 sec/mi
MSW (spinnaker mid girth):
<=1.82 x J +0 sec/mi
<=1.88 x J -3 sec/mi
>1.88 x J -6 sec/mi
Asymmetrical Spinnaker Only
If the rated yacht intends to race with asymmetrical spinnaker, tacked to the centerline, and will not be
using a symmetrical spinnaker and pole, the following matrix applies. This assumes that the maximum
mid girth (AMSW) is no longer than 1.8 x J (tack to bow) or 1.8 x TSP (J + sprit length).
SA/D Tack to Bow at J to J+3.5% J+3.5% to J+20%
<=19 +3 sec/mi +0 sec/mi
>19 +0 sec/mi -3 sec/mi
SL (spinnaker luff length) shall not exceed 1.09 x DIA (straight line from ISP to TSP).
Yachts whose base rating configuration assumes an asymmetrical spinnaker (either tacked to the bow
or a sprit), will not receive the above corrections.
3.Both Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Spinnakers
If the rated yacht intends to race with both symmetrical AND asymmetrical spinnakers, the symmetrical
spinnaker corrections are the same as in 1. above. The asymmetric spinnaker must be tacked to the
bow or the spinnaker pole (no sprit), and the following asymmetrical spinnaker corrections apply:
ASL (asymmetrical spinnaker luff):
<=1.02 x I +0 sec/mi
<=1.05 x I -3 sec/mi
>1.05 x I -6 sec/mi
AMSW (asymmetrical spinnaker mid girth):
<1.82 x J +0 sec/mi
<=1.88 x J -3 sec/mi
>1.88 x J -6 sec/mi
All corrections above are CUMULATIVE.
Symmetrical and Asymmetrical spinnakers cannot be flown at the same time.
